I think the workflow should be something more like:
Image aquisition -> Organising -> Editing -> Printing -> Archiving
How are you supposed to find the image you want to edit if you have not saved it in a logical easily remembered location. It could be months down the track. Personally I use a date based organisation along the lines of:

- 01-Jan:-
- 2006-01-02
- 2006-01-15
- 02-Feb:-
- 2006-02-05
- 2006-02-14
……
- 12-Dec:-
- 2006-12-25
- 2006-12-31
- 01-Jan:-
- 2007:-

- 2007-01-01
- 2007-01-21
……
